In the reign of Louis XIII, in 1638, a certain Jean de Moytié, Counsellor of the Bordeaux parliament and a noble bourgeois of the town, owned a beautifully sloped gravelly vineyard near the River. This place, as was the tradition, was named after its owner and thus became the “Mont-Moytié.” Historically, the production of Mont-Moytié was among the first Médoc wines, along with the “Château de Margaux”, the “Tour de Saint-Lambert” or the “Château de La Fitte” in Pauillac and the “Château de Calon”, in Saint-Estèphe, which were all established before the period of civil war known as La Fronde (1648-1653.) These were the first estates to appear in the Médoc parishes, which were later to become commune appellations. Read less

There is no question that Leoville Poyferre was not making wines at the level of quality they have since 1990. That said, the 1982 is a great wine, no doubt because of the vintage rather than the winemaking at that time. A brilliant effort, it boasts... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A gorgeous wine, and still holding back. A beautiful, perfumed red, with cherry, floral aromas. Full-bodied, very velvety, with a lot of fruit and a lovely structure. Will improve.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal. Drink now through 2010. (JS) Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1982 Leoville-Poyferre 750ml

The 1982 Leoville-Poyferre possesses great concentration, full body as well as considerable structure. A dense purple/plum color reveals some lightening at the rim. Terrific concentration hits the palate with mouth-searing levels of tannin. Full-bodied, thick, structured, muscular, and loaded with potential, this 1982 requires another 5-6 years of cellaring. It should age effortlessly for another 25-30 years. Patience is required.
