In the reign of Louis XIII, in 1638, a certain Jean de Moytié, Counsellor of the Bordeaux parliament and a noble bourgeois of the town, owned a beautifully sloped gravelly vineyard near the River. This place, as was the tradition, was named after its owner and thus became the “Mont-Moytié.” Historically, the production of Mont-Moytié was among the first Médoc wines, along with the “Château de Margaux”, the “Tour de Saint-Lambert” or the “Château de La Fitte” in Pauillac and the “Château de Calon”, in Saint-Estèphe, which were all established before the period of civil war known as La Fronde (1648-1653.) These were the first estates to appear in the Médoc parishes, which were later to become commune appellations. Read less

Smoky oak, clay soil tones, smoked chili, sweet touch of caramel, blackberry coulis – velvet texture in the mouth, seductive soft tannins, mid-palate turns a bit loose and blowsy but quite texturally expansive, tightens up on the finish, a touch short but quite enjoyable already (89-90)

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc. Medium ruby core with a fuchsia rim. Caramel aromas surround dark boysenberry and black cherry fruit. Fairly oaky on the front palate followed by toasty cherry, cassis and roaste... Mike Supple. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2007 Leoville-Poyferre 750ml

WS 90pts. - IWC 90pts. - According to the Wine Spectator: Offers subtle aromas of smoky wood, fresh herbs and dark fruits. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and soft, silky tannins. Very well-crafted and polished for the vintage. Much better than from barrel. Best after 2012. According to the Wine Advocate: Grapy, richly fruity, medium-bodied flavors of cocoa, white chocolate, spicy herbs, and black currants jump from the glass of this deliciously evolved, complex wine. It is a soft, easy-going St.-Julien to consume over the next 8-10 years.
