Leonetti Sangiovese Walla Walla Valley 1999

Winemaker's Notes:

In the early 90s, we began to research Italian heritage grape varieties that might be suitable to the Walla Walla Valley, and settled on the grosso clone of sangiovese, which is grown extensively in Montalcino and is the base for many of the famous Tuscan wines of Italy. We’ve had incredible success with sangiovese in Washington. The sangiovese variety is known for its beautiful color, wonderful aromatics, food-friendliness, and incredible age-worthiness. Our 1999 Sangiovese has a beautiful dark ruby color, a nose of vanillin, oak, red cherry, rose petals, and strawberries. The long, soft, lush finish is complimented by excellent acid balance. This lovely sangiovese is silky and balanced with a wonderful fruit impression. Vineyards in this Wine Pepper Bridge Farms, Seven Hills Vineyard, Mill Creek Upland Vineyard, and Leonetti Estate Vineyard, all of Walla Walla Valley. Blending Detail Sangiovese 80.4%, Syrah 19.6% A total of 748 cases were produced.

Leonetti Cellar:
Each of our vineyard solis shape the wine that comes from it. This is the essence of terroir. The soil of Seven Hills at the south end of the Valley is Ellisford Silt Loam.
