Vintage Notes 2001 Was about as close to a perfect vintage in the Walla Walla Valley as we could hope for. The year was absolutely beautiful with the exception of poor weather at bloom that caused us to set a smaller than normal crop. Nearly all summer long the weather was perfectly warm and sunny, without the usual heat spikes into triple digits that we normally experience in July and August. Harvest began early and ran about 5-7 days ahead of normal. The small crop contributed to great density and concentrated fruit. Winemaker notes Intense Dark color saturated to the rim. Initial aromas of vanilla, spice, and tobacco evolve in the glass to sweet cassis, currants and dark fruits. Seamless tannins carry the wonderful viscous finish across the palate. Vineyards in this Wine Mill Creek Upland, Seven Hills, Pepper Bridge, and Leonetti Estate Vineyard. 100% Walla Walla Valley vineyards. A ging Profile Aged in new French, American, and Oregon oak barrels for 22 months Blending Detail Cabernet Sauvignon 77% Merlot 13%, Carmenere 4% Syrah 3%, Petit Verdot 2% Cabernet Franc 1% Production 2217 cases
Each of our vineyard solis shape the wine that comes from it. This is the essence of terroir. The soil of Seven Hills at the south end of the Valley is Ellisford Silt Loam.
