Leonetti Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

External Review:

Also from barrel sample, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon gives up knockout creme de cassis, scorched earth, lead pencil and burning ember-like qualities to go with a full-bodied, decadently textured profile on the palate. Possessing plenty of sweet tannin and ample concentration, it stays remarkably graceful and elegant on the palate. It will evolve nicely for two decade or more.

This sturdy style sports rich cherry, herb, smoke and spice flavors on a generous, expansive frame. Offers prickly, peppery tannins and displays a welcome integrity, pulling the finish together with presence and class. Best from 2018 through 2025. 2,900 cases made.

The 2012 Walla Walla Cabernet Sauvignon is similar to the Reserve, yet slightly more elegant and streamlined at present. Made from 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot that spent 22 month in new and once-used French oak, it exhibits terrific aromatics of leafy herbs, spring flowers, violets, lead pencil shavings and ample cassis and black raspberry-style fruit. Full-bodied, seamless and perfectly balanced, with a stacked mid-palate and building tannin, it’s another candidate for short-term cellaring and will have 2–3 decades of overall longevity.

Dense, aromatic, layered and rich, this wine explodes from the glass with scents and flavors of concentrated berries, cassis, black cherry, and more. The vines have reached a mature stage that amplifies the fruit and keeps the generous barrel flavors in perfect balance. The barrel notes roll on a chorus of toasty accents, and the finish is as good in the last minute as the first whiff from the glass.

Dense with tannins, sporting flavors of licorice, blackberry and smoke that push to get through. Finishes tight, but glows with fruit and savory notes on the long aftertaste. Needs significant cellaring. Best after 2014.

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is a bigger, more structured wine. Dense, layered, and with a suave personality, it will continue to blossom for another 5–6 years and should see its 20th birthday in fine form.
