Leone de Castris Five Roses Rose 2013

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

90% Negro Amaro 10% Malvasia Nera 4.8g/l Residual Sugar 6.0 g/ l acidity 3.5 PH Earthy with a slight baked edge to the nose which features lots of herb and pork fat aromas along with a nice base of candied strawberry fruit. in the mouth this has plenty of acid but also a nice round blanket of fruit which wraps nicely around the acid spine. Showing some complexity there's hints of herbs, licorice and earth on the plate along with strawberry and lightly peachy fruit all supported by the acids and gentle tannins. The fish is a bit short, with red cherry fruit and the acid lingering. perhaps a touch rustic but really quite attractive with intensity and complexity. 88pts

It is exactly here, on the very spot where today’s cellar stands, that in 1665 Duke Oronzo, Earl of Lemos, gave birth to the company. He got enchanted by this landscape and decided to sell all his properties in Spain in order to draw the best from the Salentine rich terroir. He began to plant new vines, olive trees and wheat along 5 thousand hectares‘ properties, not only in Salice, but also in Guagnano, Veglie, Villa Baldassarri, Novoli and San Pancrazio. Read less

Lighter in concentration and easy-drinking overall, this Salice Salentino (mostly Negroamaro) from southern Italy offers aromas of ripe fruit, prunes, strawberry and black cherry. It has a slightly sweet taste in the mouth and is loaded with mature fruit flavors. M.L. ** Only 14 in Stock **
