What to Expect

Argentina, and in particular the region around Mendoza, is making a name for itself as the source of some of the finest expressions of Malbec ever made. In this warm, yet dry climate the Malbec achieves near perfect ripeness endowing the wines with a velvety texture and intense flavors of blackberry, peppery spice, and balsamic herbs. The cooler, well-drained slopes of the hillsides of the region have proven to be ideally suited for Malbec, allowing for the wines to achieve a level of complexity and harmony that rivals those of Napa or Bordeaux.

Winemakers Notes

It shows an intense violet color and displays ripe cherry and plum aromas. Spiced, with hints of mocha and blackberries, this is a delicately perfumed wine with elegant sweetness.

The DOC “Luján de Cuyo” was created in 1989 with the objective of protecting and regulating the farming and production techniques of the Malbec varietal, which is native of the Luján de Cuyo region. As it happens with the most demanding Denominations of the world, a wine with DOC Lujan de Cuyo certification must comply with a strict protocol that begins at the vineyard and finishes once the wine has read more...

Editorial Reviews

Dark and intensely purple but decidedly transparent at the same time. This present a totally different aromatic array than the other wines with funky, earthy tones taking sometime to blow off before revealing a touch of rubbery, oily shale then layers of subtle dried bay leaves, dried flowers, a bit of musky white pepper, a touch of horsy stable, a bit of vanillin, dark, bitter fruit tones. Lovely. In the mouth this is smaller scaled with fine a fine precise feel and wonderful integration of structural elements. The dark fruits have a soft bittersweet chocolate edge to them with a lovely sappy quality. read more...

Marron glace and figs aromas deliver a sweet and ripe impression to this wine, which softness its tannic structure and powerful acidity. Pour it in the with game or save for another three to four years. - Wine Enthusiast

This is one of my favorite Malbecs. It's also amazing value for money. It reminds me of dark chocolate and cherries. Not too alcoholic with great bouquet. I tried the 2003 in Buenos Aires and it was great.

Lush, full-fruited Malbec whose fruit intensity matches its dark purple color.

The D.O.C. of Lujan de Cuyo was established in 1989 with the objective of protecting and regulating the Malbec variety, which is native to the region. A wine labeled with the D.O.C. certification must comply with the strict protocol that begins at the vineyard and finishes once the wine is produced, after getting the go ahead from the Regulating Board. The grapes come from 70 year old vines and sees 14 months in oak barrels.
