What to Expect

Oregon has only recently emerged as a source for premium wine and is winning fans over to their somewhat earthy style of Pinot Noir. With vineyards a bit cooler than most of California's, yet warmer still than Burgundy, Oregon's Pinot Noirs feature a synthesis of ripe fruit, ripe structure and transparency that draws on the strengths of both. The wines tend to have a touch of earthiness and a sense of transparency that many Pinots from California lack yet the fruit profile, full of dark berries, is decidedly warm-climate in nature.

Winemakers Notes

"Medium ruby-colored, it exhibits a nose of earth notes, cherry, andraspberry. Supple-textured and easy-going, the wine is well-balanced,lengthy, and has no hard edges. Drink it over the next four years. LemelsonVineyards is certified organic which encompasses six estate vineyardsand 120 producing acres. All of the wines are fermented with nativeyeasts."89 pointsJay Miller, The Wine Advocate #179, Oct. 2008"Thea's is the measuring stick of our success as growersand vintners. Complex floral and spiced black cherry nose. The oak and tire track flavors are there but kept at bay by the bright cheery fruit flavors. Short to medium clean refreshing finish.

Nice cherry nose with some earthiness. Flavors of 'dirty' black cherries. But in a good way...very nice earthiness that reminds me of old world Burgundy Pinot. Excellent - 88 points.

Tanzer 90 points "Medium red. Smoky red berry and cherry compote aromas are complicated by sassafras and herbal notes, along with a hint of cola. Fleshy and round, offering sweet black raspberry and candied cherry flavors, supple tannins and slow-building spiciness. Clings impressively on the finish and strongly repeats the cherry note."

A product of low yields and minimal intervention, this is a deeply fruited wine with fine tannin and firm, racy acidity. Solid quality from year to year. A complex Pinot Noir on the palate.

Briary, sappy, round, lush--I could think of no better wine for Valentine's Day. It's a lusty, red, beating heart of a wine, full to the brim with flavors of dried black cherry, framboise, cocoa nibs, almond milk, and thyme. When the pork belly came out last night at Boka, I said, "I want to live in here," right there inside the tender flesh with walls of semolina. And, if I did, I would shower

This wine is getting better with age. Very nice smoky, fruity aroma, rich cherry notes. Rich mouth feel with a big, long finish, almost still a little hot on the back end, but a very tasty, hot finish. This is becoming more burgundian as it ages. Needs a lot of decanting. I have had this bottle open for 36hrs now and its getting better and better.
Fabulous with lamb (I tried it last night).
