Ribera del Duero is a very prestigious appellation in Northern Spain. Many small, very high quality wineries are located there. Legaris is a fairly new entry with an ultra-modern winery. They have two estate vineyards totaling around 225 acres where the grow Tinta Fina aka Tempranillo. This Crianza is 100% Tinta Fina that’s been aged 12 months in French and American oak barrels. This is a full bodied red with ripe red fruit and a bold spicy veneer. Let this open up for 20 minute in your decanter. Should drink beautifully over the next 6-8 years.
Winemaker's Notes:
The barrel-aging protocol is an integral part of the Legaris difference. Casks of different origins and made by different coopers are used to provide a palette of flavors. As many as 20 different types of barrels may be used to age Legaris wine. Legaris Crianza is an amazing marriage between the art of the cooperage and the frutiness and brightness of the Tempranillo (Tinta Fina) grape.

With 100% Tinto Fino (the local Tempranillo clone), there is a lot of richness to this wine at present, but there is even more tightness to it, and time is required to bring out its best . A wine for lovers of big and tannic wines, this will be tamed not only by cellaring but also by choosing powerful rich foods.
