Leeuwin Estate Riesling Art Series 2015

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This is herbal and a little stinky right out of the bottle though with time it picks up sweet grapefruit aromas with a hints of apricot and passion fruit adding complexity. A bit loosely knit on entry, this is easy drinking and transparent but lacks both depth of flavor and complexity. The finish is a bit short as well. 84pts

At the time a cattle farm, Leeuwin Estate evolved under the direction of owners Denis and Tricia Horgan, with Mondavi acting as consultant and mentor. The Estate was thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter magazine awarded their highest recommendation to the 1980 Art Series Chardonnay. Now under the direction of two generations of the founding family, the Estate is recognized as one of Australia’s leading wine producers and wine tourism pioneers. Featured three times in the prestigious category of “International Winery of the Year” by U.S. Wine & Spirits magazine, Leeuwin Estate wines nconsistently rank alongside the world’s finest. Very heavy petrol on the nose with kaffir lime leaf. Subtle spice on the palate with loads of slate minerality. Rather like a mouthful of rocks and not enough fruit for me, to balance it. Not my style. 79 pts. 5/18/13

Light straw-green; an ever-reliable riesling that has legions of admirers in a national climate lukewarm about the variety; the only problems with the wine is that it sells out so quickly. The 2008 Art Series Riesling gives up a nose of mineral, petrol, acacia, and citrus. Light in body with lively acidity, this tasty effort will evolve for 2-3 years and drink well through 2016. -Jay Miller Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. The light straw-colored 2006 Riesling "Art Series" exhibits a bouquet of mineral, spring flowers, and lemon-lime. This leads to a dry, crisp wine with plenty of citrus fruit, ripe flavors, excellent concentration, and a lengthy finish. Although it ca... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar ReviewRated 91Pale gold. Waxy, honeyed and minerally on the nose, with vibrant fruit notes of yellow apple, Bosc pear and white peach. Then quite broad on the palate, with a wide range of fruit flavors: Meyer lemon, ruby-red grapefruit, lime and white peach. Very dry and firm on the back end, with a refreshing hit of quinine adding refreshment. The crisp minerality carries impressively through the finish. Wine Tasting NotesColor is very pale straw with lime green hues. The nose indicates the quality of the wine's style with a combination of lifted floral orange blossom and lime aromas with flinty edges. A wine of good length displaying the typical Riesling flavors of citrus fruits. Featuring a combination of lime and mandarin the palate evolves into a finish of balanced acidity. This clean fresh and crisp style of wine lends itself to be enjoyed with freshly shucked oysters and Asian dishes.
