Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay Margaret River Prelude 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine & Spirits Review Rated 92 This is a fresh, clean coastal white to pour at a clambake on Martha's Vineyard, or with grilled marron in Margaret River. The flavors are rich and opulent-butter cream and tropical fruitwithout feeling weighty or heavily oaked (it's aged nine months in new French oak). Instead it's tight and slightly floral. Wine Tasting Notes This wine displays pristine Margaret River Chardonnay fruit flavors typical of the Leeuwin vineyard. The integrated nose expresses cirtus, grapefruit, nashi pear and cashews with subtle vanilla notes from the French oak. The restrained palate exhibits wonderful texture, with flavors of peach stone, pear, and citrus amongst cinnamon spices and subtle creamy oak. An elegant and youthful wine that will benefit with time in the cellar.

At the time a cattle farm, Leeuwin Estate evolved under the direction of owners Denis and Tricia Horgan, with Mondavi acting as consultant and mentor. The Estate was thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter magazine awarded their highest recommendation to the 1980 Art Series Chardonnay. Now under the direction of two generations of the founding family, the Estate is recognized as one of Australia’s leading wine producers and wine tourism pioneers. Featured three times in the prestigious category of “International Winery of the Year” by U.S. Wine & Spirits magazine, Leeuwin Estate wines nconsistently rank alongside the world’s finest.
