Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay Margaret River Prelude 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Regarded as the finest white wine to come out of Australia and definitely the best Chardonnay - this icon and heroic wine has critics across the globe raving about it. The following note comes from Matthew Jukes, arguably the best New World wine critic in the UK. "2006 Art Series is one of the very greatest vintages of one of Australia's top Chardonnays ever made. On a world scale, this is as good as Chardonnay ever gets anywhere outside of Burgundy. It strikes the quintessential balance between control and concentration, power and finesse. Its length is so heroic that minutes later nothing has changed the slightest bit in the mouth. As far as 'art labels' go, we would prefer this to a bottle of Mouton-Rothschild."

At the time a cattle farm, Leeuwin Estate evolved under the direction of owners Denis and Tricia Horgan, with Mondavi acting as consultant and mentor. The Estate was thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter magazine awarded their highest recommendation to the 1980 Art Series Chardonnay. Now under the direction of two generations of the founding family, the Estate is recognized as one of Australia’s leading wine producers and wine tourism pioneers. Featured three times in the prestigious category of “International Winery of the Year” by U.S. Wine & Spirits magazine, Leeuwin Estate wines nconsistently rank alongside the world’s finest. Read less

Bright and youthful colour; a complex array of nectarine, grapefruit and spice, particularly cinnamon on the bouquet; the palate exhibits understated power, with grilled nuts supporting the very generous, yet refined, level of stone fruit and oak; th... Light gold. Fresh lime and grapefruit aromas are deepened by smoky lees, butter and hazelnut. Firm and sharply focused, offering a vivacious set of citrus flavors along with green apple and chamomile (this did not go through malo). Finishes with very... Stephen Tanzer.
