Leeuwin Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Margaret River 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Advocate Review The outstanding 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Art Series boasts spicy, subtle French oak, cedar, spice box, black currant aromas and flavors gently touched by licorice and herbs. This attractive, medium-bodied Cabernet exhibits layers of richness, a graceful, restrained personality, decent acidity, noticeable but sweet tannin, and a long finish. Enjoy this beauty over the next decade. Drink 2005 - 2015.

After an extensive search in 1972 to identify the most suitable Australian area for the production of premium varietal wines, Robert Mondavi singled out a small plot of land in the Margaret River region. At the time a cattle farm, Leeuwin Estate evolved under the direction of owners Denis and Tricia Horgan, with Mondavi acting as consultant and mentor. The Estate was thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter magazine awarded their highest recommendation to the 1980 Art Series Chardonnay. Now under the direction of two generations of the founding family, the Estate is recognized as one of Australia’s leading wine producers and wine tourism pioneers. Featured three times in the prestigious category of “International Winery of the Year” by U.S. Wine & Spirits magazine, Leeuwin Estate wines nconsistently rank alongside the world’s finest. This is a classic Cabernet Sauvignon showing all the lovely fruit flavours of black berries, cassis, redcurrants and plums, complemented by selected French Oak to achieve complete integration of flavours. A great palate. A blend of ripe berry flavours with long fine grained tannins and integrated oak that are all in harmony. The velvety palate has great length and lingers with an elegance that marks this as a truly excellent vintage.
