Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon(1996)

This was not one of my favourites. The deep colour is impressive. There's some mintiness and a richness bordering on overripeness, as though the fruit came in at wildly varying degrees of ripeness. The tannins are a bit grainy and jagged too.

The colour is bright deep garnet with a little youthful purple around the edges. The bouquet is composed of fragrant aromas of sweet currant fruit carried and lifted by a cedary oak underpinning but not over shadowing it. Again currants are predominant on the palate with warm flavours of fine to medium texture. It fans out to a rich and quite voluminously fruity finish backed by gentle tannins. The 1996 Art Series Cabernet reflects a cool dry year, quite delicate in comparison to the 1995 but still multi complexed by the presence of 8% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Merlot. Ready for drinking or cellar up to 5 years.
