Leeuwin Chardonnay Margaret River Prelude Vineyards 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

A complex and layered palate and features a delicate lemon, pear and lime fruit spectrum at the forefront. Tight and focussed woven together by a pristine natural acid line. Mealy notes, gunflint and subtleties of nougat, fragrant jasmine and sweet spice provide breadth to an elegant nose. Delicately textured with vibrant grapefruit and freshly cut lime, width and complexity enhanced by fluffy nougat notes. A classical wine from an outstanding vintage. Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 90 points by Wine Spectator: Bright, with an herbal edge to the ripe pear and apple flavors, all of it fitting together smoothly as the finish lingers. Drink now. 500 cases imported.

At the time a cattle farm, Leeuwin Estate evolved under the direction of owners Denis and Tricia Horgan, with Mondavi acting as consultant and mentor. The Estate was thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter magazine awarded their highest recommendation to the 1980 Art Series Chardonnay. Now under the direction of two generations of the founding family, the Estate is recognized as one of Australia’s leading wine producers and wine tourism pioneers. Featured three times in the prestigious category of “International Winery of the Year” by U.S. Wine & Spirits magazine, Leeuwin Estate wines nconsistently rank alongside the world’s finest.
