Leese-Fitch Pinot Noir 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Our inaugural Pennywise Pinot Noir blend is ruby colored with aromas of fresh cherries with a hint of Monterey terrior and caramelized oak. The mouth of this wine explodes with cherry fruit, nuances of chocolate truffles with hints of lavender, summer sweet plums and wild strawberry. This wine finishes with a note of espresso, subtle Spanish bay leaf, and crushed blueberries wrapped around integrated French oak. Pairings: This wine would pair wonderfully with a seared duck breast with cherry reduction alongside wild rice, a mixed mushroom flatbread pizza with fresh thyme, or a ground turkey burger topped with fresh chevre and caramelized onions with Dijon mustard.

Rating 85: This wine is drinkable. Is it a Pinot Noir ? I could not tell. Nose is balanced fruity. Body also balanced but hint of Sweet that makes it drinkable. I guess that a beginning wine lover would like this. Complexity none!! Pinot character none!!

Earthy on the nose but not on the palate. Tasted at Geneva wine tasting 4/18/2010.

This is average at best. There is a lot of red cherry but that is about all that is going on here. None of the earthy, mushroom flavors that I love in pinot noir.

It all depends on what you like. It smells earthy like a pinot noir, but the flavor is light, fruit forward (cherry). You could drink it alone or with a meal. I liked it!
