Leese Fitch Chardonnay 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

This bleached straw colored wine has aromas of fresh squeezed Meyer lemons, lime zest, and minerals. The palate exudes mouthwatering crisp green apple, grapefruit, and lemongrass, finishing with rich acidity, integrated French oak, and a touch of spearmint. The 2008 harvest in Clarksburg produced great acid driven Chardonnays. The Chardonnay was assembled from three vineyard blocks; one in Northern Clarksburg for intense apple nuances, and two vineyards right off the delta. One of the vineyards on the delta using a trellis system called sprawl, grows an old Wente Chardonnay clone. This vineyard produces great Chardonnay due to how the clusters hang from the vine as well the clusters are exposed to more sun. These clones developed great lemon nuances with a creamy midpalate. The Chardonnay legs blended wonderfully with Chenin Blanc from Clarksburg. The Chenin Blanc was picked much earlier to preserve the mineral nature and rich acidity. Coupling these Clarksburg lots with Chardonnay from River Junction, Paso Robles, and Monterey with a dab of Viognier from River Junction, created a fantastic bistro-style Chardonnay with good character and brilliant acidity. Pairings: This vintage is a bistro sommelier’s dream. This chardonnay would pair wonderfully with salads and seafood; such as Salad Nicoise (seared tuna salad with all the classic fixings), white wine steamed clams with lemon and garlic, and pan roasted sand dabs with a fresh squeeze of lemon over lentils and broccoli rabe.
