L'Ecole No. 41 Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley 2014

Member Review by jtryka:

The wine is a deep purple at the center, with a bright ruby along the edges. The nose is classic combination of rich leather, cocoa powder, a touch of green grass and some ripe cherry. The taste is a blast of cherry cola which transitions to some lovely mineral notes of basalt and limestone along with some green herbs midpalate. The finish is lovely, as the elegant tannins provide for a velvety mouthfeel and the basis for a long, sultry and exceptionally dry finish that just begs you to ask for more. Rich red and black berry fruit. On the palate, some lovely violet tones with rich cassis. Smooth and velvety wine.

I love this wine for $15 you would be very hard pressed to find any cab from anywhere that could stand up to this walla walla icon. Pair this with a big thick slab of NY steak and you are in for a treat. Enjoy.

These bottles of Washington State wine amuse me, but don't motivate me to go out and buy a supply. Maybe I treat them like experiments? I have had many many Cabs from this state and can honestly say, other than a stray here and there, they just don't spin my wheels. This one is no different. Maybe I am seeking Napa style from elsewhere?Tasted immediately and decanted. The color is a dark cherry cola. The nose reveals some soda pop and some very subdued red fruits. The palate shows the sweetness and slight vegetalness I have come to expect from the appellation. There is some dark cherrie and blackberry. Where's the currant/cassis? Where's the plush? Tannins resoved but that not alone is gonna pull this one out of the hole. Some chocolate and tar toward the finsh which is just ok.. Ho Hum sums it up. Now back to the Valley to the south.

With an elegant, old world structure, this sophisticated Cabernet shows aromas of dark fruit, earth, and fresh herbs. A seamless core of blackberry, plum, and dark cherry mingle with notes of tobacco and leather on a structured finish.
