Le Serre Nuove Ornellaia 2015

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

From the first official tasting outside of the estate. The nose begins with oak, toast, and sugar notes though they are moderate in intensity and are joined by a floral note, cassis fruit, cedar as well as tar, asphalt, smoke, molasses, and gingersnaps. In the mouth the wine offers up a seamless, medium bodied imoression that features refined tannins, nuanced oak, hard blackberry candy fruit, a bit of bitterness that cuts the finish short. Needs time to integrate, at this point the nose is better than the palate. 2008-2010

Intensely aromatic with layers of coffee, roasted chili, olive, and black fruits that continue to evolve all night. Still a baby in the mouth with a big, muscular feel. The tannins are polished yet abundant, the fruit is dark and rich, bordering on sweet especially with the sweet wood tones. There is a coffee cream note to the mid-palate then a bif creme de cassis note takes over on the back end and leads to the finish with it's spice, mineral and olive tones. It's a lot of wine and while not exactly my style is certainly enjoyable and that goes for amateurs as well! 2008-2016 92pts

The nose strikes as deep and clean if a bit odd with hints of melting crayon and wet canvas. The alcohol is a touch obvious but the aromatics are intriguing with subtle notes of green herb, green pepper, green cardamom framing the cool red fruits. There is a touch of charcoal and wood spice but it is well integrated. Focused and crisp in the mouth with a lean, sinewy feel to the black curranty fruit which really shows through on the finish, which true to style remains austere. This is on its plateau and is probably as good as it's gonna get.

Tight, steely, mineral nose that sets this apart from younger versions. Still retains black currant fruit but all the other elements, slatiness and a strong tobacco note gives this a more than passing resemblance to a fine Graves. A bit of cheesiness reveals it age. This offer a nice, soft resolved entry with lovely tea notes up front building towards a bright cassis midpalate which is a bit compressed on the top. Still taut, cool , yet balanced. Drink em up 2008-2012

Pretty nose of red and black berry. Leans dark red and has some nice floral aromas. Rich and elegant structure with flavors of red cherry, flowers, mint, licorice and has nice freshness and structure. Firm tannin. Tasty blend! 90 pts. 12/8/12

91/100 Supersnobs.nl

The 2008 Ornellaia has really come together beautifully over the last few months. Up until fairly recently it was a tightly wound, inaccessible wine, but it has begun to blossom quite nicely. The 2008 is a cool, inward Ornellaia graced with exquisite finesse in its dark fruit, mocha, licorice, tar and spices. I especially like the minerality and focus. There is a fabulous balance between the tannins of this structured, powerful vintage, but with gorgeous fleshiness and pliancy that makes the wine very attractive, even at this early stage. It will be fascinating to watch the 2008 develop over the coming years and decades. The 2008 growing season was marked by a rainy, wet spring which resulted in an irregular flowering and naturally low yields. The summer was hot, but temperatures cooled towards the end of the summer, particularly at night, so important for the development of color, aromatics and full phenolic ripeness in varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is a big, massively structured Ornellaia built for the cellar. In 2008 the blend is 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The 2008 Ornellaia spent about 20 months in French oak barrels, 70% new. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028. Score - 96+.

A soft, generous red, the wine offers terrific richness and depth in its ripe, perfumed fruit. Sweet scents of French oak linger on the long finish. This generous, seductive wine should continue to drink well over the next few years.

A muscular, impenetrable red, with tightly wound tannins guiding the black cherry, plum, herb, soy and oak spice flavors. Monolithic today, this needs time to find equilibrium. Best from 2016 through 2032.

Poured from the special anniversary bottle, the 2010 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is a truly outstanding wine that leaves a lasting memory for those who are lucky enough to enjoy it. What stands out is the absolutely seamless-seamless-seamless (yes, it's worth repeating three times) integration of its many moving parts. The wine magically transitions from cherry, spice, chocolate and espresso in one melodic and continuous loop. It exudes balance and elegance over long, delicious minutes. It is profoundly impressive. Anticipated maturity: 2016–2030. Of all the grapevines planted on the Ornellaia estate, the 2010 vintage showed best results with Merlot, says Leonardo Raspini. Because the harvest was later than usual, the early-ripening grape enjoyed a slow and steady evolution.

Intensives, leuchtendes Rubin; in der Nase verführerisch elegant. Nach schwarzen Johannisbeeren, Tabak, Kakao, Zedernholz und warmen Gewürzen duftend. Vielschichtige Aromadecke. Im Gaumen sehr dicht mit kompakter Struktur. Dichtemaschiges Tannin. Noten von Zartbitterschokolade, edlem Holz, schwarzen Beeren wie Cassis, einem Hauch Vanille. Komplexe Aromatik.

The 2010 Le Serre Nuove dell Ornellaia shows off tons of concentration and sheer depth. Mocha espresso dark cherries and plums are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass. The 2010 is a decidedly powerful virile wine endowed with considerable power. It will be interesting to see how the layers of flavor flesh out once the wine has been bottled. For now the 2010 is a highly promising Serre Nuove. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027. -Antonio Galloni Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
