Le Salette Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico Pergole Vece 2012

Member Review by Wine Fire:

The nose opens with spice, licorice, raisins, and wafts of coffee. The big, layered palate launches with prunes and raisins, followed by notes of cherry and spice. The finish is balanced and lengthy. Various flavor combinations emerge over three hours, sustaining interest.

The 2010 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Pergole Vece is one of the great wines of the vintage. This standout expression is composed of 70% Corvina and Corvinone, 10% Rondinella, 10% Croatina and 10% Oseleta, aged up to 36 months in barrique. The grapes, harvested as a special selection from old vines, see an extended appassimento (air-drying) of six months. The intensity is impressive and the bouquet offers a full array of dark fruit, spice and leather aromas. The finish is syrupy rich and slightly sweet. Give this wine three or four more years of cellar aging before you pop the cork.

A creamy red, with good density and a fine knit to the flavors of plum sauce, date, espresso crème and medicinal herbs. Mouthwatering and silky in texture, ending with a long finish of spice and mineral. Drink now through 2030. 542 cases made.

Wine Tasting NotesThe color is a dark ruby red with purple highlights. Full bodied wine, balanced and concentrated with aromas of red dried fruit, prunes, licorice, spices and coffee. Long finish.
