Wonderful aromas of crushed rapsberry, strawberry and hints of vanilla follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a long finish. Silky. Hard to resist already. Pure Merlot. Almost impossible to find. Best after 2008.

Dark ruby. Refined aromas of blackcurrant, coffee liqueur and cassis are complicated by minty and herbal notes, but this also exhibits (like the Paleo) some rather obvious coconut. Beautifully suave on the palate and lighter in style than other famous Italian merlots, this exhibits compelling flavors of cassis, dark chocolate, and almost garrigue-like spices. Finishes smoothly tannic, very long and complex, with a distinct touch of mint and a hint of alcoholic warmth.
Beautiful, subtle aromas of berries, cappuccino and black olive are amazing. Full-bodied, with ultrarefined tannins and a long, long finish. Goes on for minutes. Leaves me speechless. This is soulful. A Tuscan cult wine you donrsquo;t want to miss. Merlot. Best after 2012.
The 2004 Messorio is clearly the most complete of these 2004s. It is a remarkably elegant Messorio endowed with a seamless, layered personality that exudes generous dark plums, prunes, mint, licorice, smoke, chocolate and toasted oak. Despite its considerable appeal, it is a powerful, structured wine with a significant tannic backbone that will require patience. It shows well-integrated tannins, superb balance, and a seductive, inviting personality that is absolutely irresistible. Anticipated maturity: 2011ndash;2022.
Dark red. Enticing aromas of blackberry, ground coffee and black pepper, with a definite herbal twist. Brooding and muscular on the palate, offering a rare combination of elegance and power, thanks to ripe acidity and sweet tannins. This is always the most tannic of Le Macchiole’s wines, a characteristic Campolmi believes is due to the soil.
The 2003 Messorio (100% Merlot) is simply stunning. While it may not have the complexity or detail of the very finest vintages, it does offer much pleasure in the very ripe style of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2007andndash;2015.
