What to Expect

Zinfandel is considered America's own great indigenous grape, even though its origins lie on the Adriatic coast. Planted throughout California and the Pacific Northwest, Zinfandel is at its best in warm regions with cooler temperatures during harvest. The wines can range from off-dry Rosés, White Zinfandels, and light bistro styled wines, to big, rich powerful wines - even luscious wines for dessert bottling. The flavors range from plummy to raspberry, although deep blackberry fruit and brambly spice tones are most common.

Very extracted and intense, with so much ripe fruit that it tastes almost port-like. We are enjoying the 2007 as I type this, with some Stilton cheese. My wife says, "WOW", and I think it is a tasty bottle of juice that needs the correct cuisine pairing. Maybe a nice Angus steak? We picked it up at Costco a few days back and it was less than $12 so it's a perfect bottle for the current economic climate.

I loved it, esp. at this price point. It runs toward the sweet, fruity side. But when I paired it with food, the spice and complexity came out, and it didn't seem 'sweet' at all.
