Winemakers Notes
This wine is a beautiful blend of 51% Syrah, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. As it approaches its third birthday, this infant of a wine is still a deep ruby in color, even at its rim, where a wine first begins to show its age the crows feet of the wine world. Look for dark fruits of cassis and blueberry as well as cigar box and cola, followed by a broad palate of tar, leather, sweet black currants and other dark berries and licorice. The finish lingers and echoes like the sound of a gong in a quiet concert hall a complex wine Stephan says is drinking well now and will continue to improve for another read more...
What to Expect
Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Editorial Review
This is immediately giving on the nose with notes of fudge, mocha, mint, pencil shavings, tobacco and cool blackberry and boysenberry fruit. In the mouth this is cool and poised with good depth of fruit pinned by lots of fine wood tannins. This is more open and giving than the other L'Aventure cuvees read more...

Integrated nose of cherry, leather and minerals. Smooth, silky and rich with opulent fruits. Nice finish, with a refreshing absence of licorice.
Clean, fresh red fruit aromas frame a deep blackberry core. There's a lot of spice, dark fig and raisin flavors with black olive, red fruit, chewy tannin, dark chocolate and an oaky finish. A delicious, complex wine.
Very fruity and rich nose of chocolate, nutmeg and cocoa. Good price for a wine of such complexity - very nice.
The least expensive red wine is the Optimus cuvee. The 2005 Optimus (51% Syrah, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot) barely qualifies as a Rhone Ranger, but it offers classic chocolate, cassis, espresso, and subtle wood notes along with a dense ruby/purple hue, gorgeous concentration, and read more...
