L'Aventure Côte à Côte 2007
40% Mourvedre, 40% Grenache, 20% Syrah. Ruby in color with garnet edges, the aromas are diverse, with a spice bouquet, mineral notes, and blueberries leading the way. The attack on the palate is vibrant, with rich violet and wild berry flavors standing over a stream of cherry, pomegranate, and tar. The finish is opulent, with vanilla spice sounding a final note.
Stephan Asseo left Bordeaux to fulfill his dream of creating handcrafted Syrah/Cabernet Sauvignon blends. His adventure landed him in Paso Robles California where he found the perfect terroir to complete his vision. He has spent the last 10 years creating a world class vineyard from which he meticulously composes top quality, handcrafted blends.
My first thought was 'tastes expensive'. Very complex layering with a good weight, deep fruit on the palate (pomegranate? blueberries?) and a lot of opulent vanilla notes on the finish. I tasted several wines at this winery, and this one stood out to me.
Wonderful wine. Concentrated fruit, long finish. Delicious. At $80-90, it's a great deal.
