Laurenz V Friendly Gruner Veltliner Case of 6 Bottles 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

Origin The grapes for this very charming wine are grown in the Kamptal region of Austria. Here, the Gr&uumlner Veltliner ripens in granite, gneiss, mica slate as well as loess soils. The northerly cool air streams from the rugged Waldviertel region and results in a significant day and night temperature difference. This in turn slows the ripening process of the grapes, and it is the diurnal effect of warm days and cool nights that makes wines from this region taste so fresh and fruity. The most beautiful kind of "Cool Climate Viticulture." The Name LAURENZ V. stands for five generations of the Laurenz Moser wine dynasty. The winemaker Laurenz Maria Moser V. focusses entirely on the grape variety Gr&uumlner Veltliner. Vinification The 2012 vintage can be described in five simple words: low quantity and high quality. During Winter and at Easter, when the vines had already started to shoot, and into May we experienced an unusually late spate of frost in Kamptal. By contrast, the Summer was extremely dry. These weather conditions resulted in a reduced yield of up to 40 percent. Nevertheless, the 2012 vintage is now regarded as one of a very high quality. Once the grapes were picked by hand, they were brought immediately to the winery in small boxes in order to prevent any possible damages to the grapes. They were then pressed very carefully. Temperature controlled fermentation followed; this was carried out exclusively in steel tanks so that freshness and fruitiness could be retained. Charming 2012 then rested on the fine lees until 2 weeks before bottling which took place in late April 2013. The vintage 2012 offers a high quality and a rich, elegant and fruity wine with a very well balanced zip. Tasting Notes Aromas of ripe apples and a typical Veltliner spiciness marry to create a fascinating fruit bouquet. On the palate, the wine is soft and juicy, supported by a fine fruit acidity. Very harmonious, allowing for perfectly smooth drinking. Simply charming!

Dusty, mineral, lightly aromatic, fresh, apple peel and dried tangerine zest – lots of trapped co2, disconcertingly so, for most people, especially in light of the bottle being labeled still white wine – nice fruit, there’s a impression of sweetness in the flavor profile, all peachy and apricotty, moderately long, lightly sticky finish with a nice floral note. 87pts

Bitter orange, citron, lime, lime leaf, white peach, sandy soil tones, a touch of sage and other nice spice notes, not quite peppery, more herbal peppery like water cress, a little sweet, lush, richly fruited, nice vein of green herb, almost green peppercorn in the background helping to keep this from being noticeably sweet, the fruit is a bit indistinct on the palate though there are layered notes of bitter orange, lime and apple. Good acidity supports a nice quartzy mineral note on the back end and through the moderately long, lightly creamy, cream fruit finish, with a touch of orange pith on the finale. 88pts

Peach and citrus notes on the nose with some floral notes. Really good balanced complexity on the palate - floral with fruit and very strong (yet soft) tangy citrus notes, great acid. Good length. I thought this wine was much better served at a slightly warmer temperature than I would normally serve these types of crisp whites. It paired well with green coconut thai curry.

Lime peek and a good zesty acidic zing. Quite refreshing, but falls off a little on the finish.

Citrus and green apple in the nose with a refreshing zest on the palate. Great length but does not have that overpowering tartness some other gruners tend to have. Great price point for a delicious wine.

Helles Gelb.

Wine Tasting NotesLaurenz und Sophie Singing Grner Veltliner is a new and refreshing wine concept that was primarily created for the fine wine trade. The eye catching label already expresses what the consumer will find in the bottle - a wine that sings on the pallet and is easy to gulp!
