Laurenz Gruner Velt Sophie Sing 2006
The grapes for this very charming wine are grown in the Kamptal region of Austria. Here, the Grüner Veltliner ripens in granite, gneiss, mica-slate as well as loess soils. Grüner Veltliner is Austria's showpiece grape. It yields concentrated, harmonious wines rich in finesse and with a long life potential. Veltliner wines are reliable in their development. They bring pure enjoyment in their youth, and guarantee utmost drinking pleasure in maturity. This wine calls up the strengths of its origins and expresses them clearly and distinctly. Its refreshing aroma seems almost light and airy, but in fact exudes depth and richness in finesse. On the palate are attributes of a wonderfully developed Veltliner: spicy, harmonious and structured - elegant, and with refreshing green notes (not overripe!) and a range of subtle nuances. A fresh and animated wine right through to the charming, delicately sweet finish. This wine is not only charming, but is also certainly seductive.

Editorial Reviews for Laurenz Gruner Velt Sophie Sing
Bitter orange, citron, lime, lime leaf, white peach, sandy soil tones, a touch of sage and other nice spice notes, not quite peppery, more herbal peppery like water cress, a little sweet, lush, richly fruited, nice vein of green herb, almost green peppercorn in the background helping to keep this from being noticeably sweet, the fruit is a bit indistinct on the palate though there are layered notes of bitter orange, lime and apple. Good acidity supports a nice quartzy mineral note on the back end and through the moderately long, lightly creamy, cream fruit finish, with a touch of orange pith on the finale. 88pts
