Laurent Perrier Grand Siecle 1985

Winemaker's Notes:

Starry bright, with a brilliant yellow hue. Subtle hints of honey, hazelnuts, grilled almonds and fresh pastry make this a perfect wine to go with the finest dishes. Powerful and yet well-rounded, this wine is rich and savoury, finishing with a deliciously fresh touch. The length of its flavours is remarkable. Grand Siècle shows a unique and balanced combination of depth and finesse. Serve between 10 and 12°C. Complex and well-balanced, Grand Siècle contains all the ingredients to enable it to match a wide range of refined dishes. It would provide the perfect foil to poultry with truffles, or to veal with wild mushrooms. One could also try it with fish such as red mullet or sea-bass. For a magnificent start to a festive meal, serve it as an aperitif.

Founded in 1812, Laurent-Perrier is recognised - throughout the world - as one of the finest of Champagne Houses. This success derives, first and foremost, from a clear determination to abide by long-established traditions: respect for nature and wine, dedication to quality, and strong and lasting relationships with all those associated with the company, within and without. It is also the result of the sheer driving force of Bernard de Nonancourt, the creator of the Laurent-Perrier range, and that of his daughters, Alexandra and Stéphanie, who are concentrating their own energies on preserving the Group’s independence and perpetuating its values.

Pale gold with a delicate and fine bead. Subtle spice and hints of citrus. Warm toasty notes balance the freshness of fruit. Medium bodied and very easy on the palate. Perfectly balanced: a soft mouthfeel belies the strong structure of the wine. Finishes clean yet delicately lingers.

Grand Siècle is a blend of pinot noir and chardonnay, with the latter being slightly dominant. The grapes are supplied by twelve of the most prestigious crus or villages, all of them Grands Crus classified at 100%, such as Ambonnay, Verzenay, Mailly, Avize, Cramant, Chouilly and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Within the vineyards of these crus, only the very best plots are selected, as are the finest musts from the pressings. The blended wine is then aged for 6 to 8 years.
