Laurelhurst Cellars Red Blend Columbia Valley Azorica 2008

Member Review by Lucha Vino:

50% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Boushey Vineyard in the Yakima Valley AVA. 50% Syrah from the Ranch at the end of the Road & Songbird Vineyards on Red Mountain (AVA). On first opening the nose shows licorice, dark currants cherry and creamy earthy all spice notes. The palate is bold with black cherry and all spices with a cedar & menthol spice tinged finish. One hour later the nose is showing licorice, violets and spices. The palate has loads of dark fruit and menthol spices with menthol and clove spices on the finish. One day later the nose is dark and rich with black fruit, dusty cracked pepper and all spice with some hints of bacon. The palate is equally dark with currant and tart menthol and clove spices that carry over to the finish along with some notes of cedar and cherry bark.

Newly located at 5608 7th Ave South Seattle, WA 98108, Laurelhurst Cellars is a Seattle winery located in the Georgetown district just South of the stadiums downtown. The winery was established in 2004 by Gabe Warner, Greg Smallwood and Dave Halbgewachs in the basement and garage of Gabe’s home in Laurelhurst. It did not take us long before we grew out of that space and moved the winery into a warehouse space in Georgetown. From the start our vision was to create wines that would stand alone, showcasing their personality as a result of unique soil, climate and vineyard management. Laurelhurst Cellars produces premium, hand crafted wines from Washington State. With a commitment to quality, we are producing wines from some of the most prized vineyards in Washington. We produce only small lots that showcase Washington’s unique terroir. Creating wines that remain true to their varietal character. Our cellar practices of small-lot fermentation, gentle handling and hand selecting French oak barrels complement the dimensions of Laurelhurst Cellars wines. “Great wine is a reflection of its origin” To this point our wines showcase the unique expression of our vineyards which include Boushey Vineyard, Klipsun Vineyard, Kiona Vineyard, Songbird Vineyard, Burgess Vineyard and Zephyr Vineyard. Each of these vineyards allow us to craft wines with unique vineyard and variatal characteristics with balance and elegance. We invite you to experience our passion. Our wines are available directly from the winery or at select restaurants, wine shops and grocery stores in the Puget Sound area. Our wines: Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Mountain Syrah, Boushey Vineyard Syrah, Boushey Vineyard Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah and Laurus Nobilis (Bordeaux Style Blend of Merlot, Cabernet, Cabernet Franc & Petite Verdot).
