Laurel Glen Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Sonoma 2002
Always eagerly awaited, in this difficult year Patrick Campbell has crafted a light wine, but one no less harmonious and enjoyable. Right now oak dominates a rather earthy, closed nose, but there's a dense, chewy core of essential blackberry fruit that bodies well for the future. Try aging until 2005.Add winemaker's notes

Deep ruby. Pungent, mineral-accented cherry and cassis aromas, with herb and espresso accents. Ripe dark fruit flavors are complicated by iron and sassafras, with a deeper, earthier quality coming on with air. A brooding, deeply concentrated wine, with impressive power and lingering notes of dark cherry and candied licorice. Give this some air.
As always, the laurel Glen exhibits great poise, its mountain flavors sculpted into a stylish whole. The '95 seems less concentrated than past vintages; its cassis fruit and chocolate spice will be tasty beside a roast chicken and scalloped potatoes.

Black olive, plum, herb and sage notes are taut, concentrated and dry on the palate, balanced and supported by firm tannins. Needs time. Best to decant for now. Best from 2009 through 2018.
Lacking the concentration I have come to expect from a Laurel Glen Cabernet Sauvignon, this 1997 exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as an earthy, tannic constitution, sweet aromas and flavors of tar, black currants, and earth, medium body, and a surprisingly astringent finish. This rugged Cabernet requires 2-3 additional years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2012.
Solid, chunky and firm, with pretty black cherry, wild berry, plum and raspberry flavors, finishing with tight, chewy tannins. Best from 2002 through 2009.
