Laurance of Margaret River Chardonnay 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

A nice balance of richness, flavour and restraint. Flavours and perfumes of nashi pear, white grapefruit, and lemon are presented on a minerally backbone. Harmonious, with the most subtle hint of vanillin, butterscotch and brioche which fade gracefully on the finish. 1 Gold Medal.

The property comprises over 120 hectares, 22 hectares under vine, and fronts the primary tourist route of Caves Road, linking the town sites of Busselton, Dunsborough and Yallingup in the north with Margaret River and Augusta in the south providing access to the majority of the region’s main tourist attractions. Laurance was established in May 2001 and is situated 255kms south of the City of Perth and falls within the prestigious Margaret River Region. The Margaret River district is recognized globally as a premium viticultural region. It has an abundance of natural attractions to indulge your senses including underground crystal caves, a rugged coastline with pristine white beaches and natural forests. In 2001, the Laurance family purchased 40 hectares of prime viticultural land. This property consisted of vines planted in 1996, three white and three red varieties. Dianne Laurance had a vision to create a beautiful Cellar with a distinction and an emphasis on being family friendly. In order to retain the vineyard as a private family property, the Laurance’s acquired the adjoining 60 hectares to fulfil the dream. Laurance Cellar, with its rustic charm and European sophistication, offers visitors a tasting with a difference in magnificent surroundings. The building has been constructed of prefabricated concrete and its unique finish gives the perception of age. Ironbark timbers sourced from the old Wooloomooloo Wharf in Sydney feature throughout the building. The Cellar is adorned with beautiful artworks and sculptures from around Australia. The grounds boast a 1,000 bush rose garden, manicured lawns and two spectacular sculptures. As you approach the entrance you will notice “The Garden of Eden” tree with its one tempting red apple. This piece designed by Dianne and commissioned by Wil Wilson of Willie Wildlife Sculptures to create, signifies that you are entering a place of tranquility and beauty. In the middle of the lake suspended on a 14 metre electric blue pole you will see “Free as a Bird”. This magnificent 3 metre lady is gilded in 24ct gold leaf and represents the freedom and opportunities that this great country of ours affords us all. This piece was also designed by Dianne and commissioned by Charlie & Joan Smith. The building has a large open fire, is air conditioned and while ensuring the adults are catered for, there is a fabulous playground to entertain the children and rolling lawns to play. Wine tastings are offered by way of trays. Patrons are encouraged to sit at a table and relax and enjoy the ambience of this breathtaking venue while tasting the wines under no pressure. Laurance produces ten wines in their portfolio under the label “Laurance of Margaret River”. The wines are amongst the best in the region and are presented in unique and elegant screen printed bottles providing a point of difference. The wine and the packaging have been recognized with outstanding national and international awards. The casual dining options showcase fresh local produce and are reasonably priced and affordable for all. Read less
