Las Rocas de San Alejandro Calatayud Garnacha 2014

Editorial Review by Snooth Editorial:

Soft raspberry and red currant aromas with earthy, dusty spice. Bold, ripe and full bodied with zesty spice and dark chocolate, earthy black olive and toasted oak, medium tannins and a long smoky finish. Good complexity.

Belonging to the community of Calatayud from the re-conquest of Alfonso I until 1834. At the centre of its urban neighbourhood rises the church of San Pedro Apóstol made in the mudejar style, which it lies next to the exceptional communal Tower in the gothic style and built using cut-stone masonry. At the beginning of the 17th century, the mudejar-style Convent of the Reverendas Concepcionistas Franciscanas was built, where the remainders of San Alejandro currently remain in honour of whom the main town festivities are held from the 12th to the 16th of May. Black fruits and chocolate in the aroma, really easy going body with strong blackberry notes and a fruit-forward finish.

Christmas 2013, Binny's. First bottle from the cellar in 2015. Very good with a few spicy notes on the tongue. I know that means nothing to anybody, but suffice it to say it is worth your pocket change. Mary loved it, I had one sip and it was a quality one. She had it for two cocktail hours on 1/2 and 1/3/15.

Tasting Notes: The intense red color of our 2013 Garnacha leads to vibrant aromas and rich flavors of dark cherry and blackberry. Nuances of oak and round tannins underscore these decadent fruit flavors to create a well-structured wine that delivers a pleasantly rich body sensation on the palate. Viticulture Notes: Las Rocas wines come from steep, rocky vineyards in Calatayud at elevations of 2,500 to 3,500 feet. The vines for our Garnacha are 30 to 50 years old and grow in loose, rocky limestone soil. The 2013 vintage brought an unseasonably wet winter which brought much needed relief to drought stress in the region. Dry, warm summer conditions with cooler temperatures than average for that time of year allowed grapes to reach optimal ripeness. Despite lower yields, the slow ripening of the grapes resulted in vibrant fruit of outstanding quality. Winemaking Notes: Following harvest at the beginning of October, the Garnacha grapes were cold soaked for several days to extract the deep, intense flavors of the fruit. During fermentation, which occurred at temperatures between 75°F and 82°F, the juice remained in contact with the skins for 15 days. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation, which softened the mouthfeel and added depth and nuance to the Garnacha. A portion of the wine was aged in French and American oak barrels with a light to medium toast level for 10 months. Varietal Content: 98% Garnacha 2% Syrah Titratable Acidity: 0.55g/100ml pH: 3.67 Alcohol Level: 15.0% Residual Sugar: .24g/100ml

Intense cherry red color' with captivating aromas of vibrant black raspberry. Hints of spice box reflect a judicious touch of oak. This wine is all about depth and succulent layers of flavor. It is round and full in the mouth, with a fruit-filled finish.Great with a rack of lamb, but pairs perfectly with a gourmet or homemade pizza! Summers Website

90 Points - Wine Advocate"...gives up attractive aromas of kirsch, raspberries, pepper, and damp earth. This is followed by a broad, full-flavored wine with a supple texture and no hard edges..."

Expressive black cherry, cola and vanilla flavors mingle in this polished red. The light, firm tannins and orange peel acidity are balanced, giving way to a spicy finish. Drink now through 2015.

Intensives Kirschrot. In der Nase reife Frucht, feine Toastnoten, Kaffee. Wunderbare Fruchtkomponenten der Garnachatrauben. Am Gaumen füllig, fleischig, geschmackvolle, schön integrierte Tannine, körperreich. Ein langer, fruchtiger Abgang.
