Larkmead Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2007
(96% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot and Cabernet Franc)....brilliant. It would probably be hard to find a Cabernet Sauvignon of this quality with this production level all estate fruit and such impeccable viticulture and winemaking. This wine reminded me of a great vintage of Pontet Canet in Pauillac Bordeaux. The deep creme de cassis flavors intermixed with charcoal and lead pencil shavings soar from the glass. Its full body stunning ripeness sweet tannin and substantial flavor authority make for a brilliant Cabernet Sauvignon to drink over the next two decades.
At first pour, the nose was extremely expressive with tart cherry, black currant, pipe smoke and cinnamon but with time it gained herbal tones and notes of cedar, like walking through a garden of rosemary and sage. The palate showed remarkable intensity and girth with concentrated wild berry fruit, dark chocolate, exotic spices and a core of saline minerality. The finish seemed to linger for over a minute with tart cherry, cranberry, and intense dark chocolate lining the palate. The 2007 Larkmead Cabernet was wonderfully enjoyable tonight but is still such a baby. With this intensity of fruit hiding such ripe tannin and balanced acidity, it's sure to age beautifully for years to come. I'll check back in around 2016. (95 points)
The nose really jumps out at you showing an elegant blend of cassis, plum, earth, and some wood shavings. These notes transfer over to the palate with the addition of a good and pure blast of red and black fruit. Good medium plus finish. 93+ points. Winery suggests to cellar for 5-10 years, but one year of bottle age after release and this is doing fine off a pop and pour.
This is a wonderfully deep red beautifully smooth wine that evolves for hours in your glass. There are notes of black cherry, black berry and earth. This is a wine that drinks like a bottle twice its price.

Good medium ruby. Blackcurrant, currant leaf, leather, smoke and tobacco on the nose. Sweet, dense and lush, with flavors of black raspberry, plum and mocha complicated by tobacco and currant leaf. This, too, finishes with a hint of tartness but possesses a bit more buffering mid-palate material.
Outstanding for the vintage. It spent 20 months in French oak before being bottled without fining or filtration. A dense ruby/purple color accompanies a bouquet of cassis, earth, new oak, spice box, and a hint of tobacco leaf. With a chewy texture, fine density, and medium to full body, it is best consumed over the next 10-12 years.
The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3,500 cases produced) is performing even better from bottle than it did from cask. It is a sexy, supple Cabernet offering a dense saturated purple color, and a big, full-bodied, heady bouquet of black fruits, melted licorice, and smoke. This fleshy, hedonistic Cabernet Sauvignon will have huge crowd appeal, and should fare well in blind tastings. Enjoy it over the next 10-15 years.
A stylish wine that's ripe, rich and supple, beautifully focused on concentrated black cherry, black currant and roasted herb flavors. The fruit flavors keep coming, along with nicely integrated toasty oak and round tannins. Delicious drinking now, but will hold for several years. A great price, from an old vineyard north of St. Helena. Drink now through 2010.

Its endearing silkiness, multi-dimensions, and mature, sweet tannins suggest it has two decades of life ahead of it.
