What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

Winemakers Notes

Deep ruby red/purple color. Intense aromatics of sweet black cherry, cassis and violets broaden to show floral perfume notes, dark cocoa powder and complex minerals. The palate features an explosive core of sweet black fruits and an elegant yet luscious mouth feel which deepens and concentrates with aeration. The youthful chewy tannins provide balance and length and the wine finishes with great inner-mouth purity.

A classic, elegant vintage in a similar vein to our 2001 Estate Cabernet, the wine features a complex array of cool climate aromas and flavors as befits this long cool read more...

Wine fridays! A beautiful wine, still young with some tight tannins, but its excellent today. A very oaky and vanilla nose moves into rich blackberries and plums with solid structure and tannins. Nice minerality and tannins on the long finish.

Very inviting nose of deep, ripe blackberries and rich vanilla. It's still a little young right now. Silky smooth black fruits on the palate with a strong tannic backbone and medium spice. Nice lingering leathery finish.

Fruit purity framed on a textured nose; a bit herbaceous, dried and dusty. Elegant and graceful mid-palate fruit, medium body with silky tannins and a lasting (30+ seconds) finish with a touch of tobacco and cedar and bittersweet chocolate and fruit sweetness.

A big fruity cab with terroir, charms with oak and vanilla, lingers on the palette. Heavy on alcohol, but soft on tannins, especially for a 2005 vintage. I wish I had an even bigger glass. This is a wholly satisfying wine, and the price tag is fair. For those who don't like to spend a lot, this would be suitable for graduation or bronze anniversary. For those with greater means, this could be an everyday staple (Buy American!).
