Editorial Reviews for Lapierre Morgon
Morgon produces rich, earthy wine that can easily be mistaken for Burgundy. Lapierre is a great biodynamic producer. This offers up notes of beet roots, dusty earth, anise and aggressive herb and medicinal notes. With a very light, natural and elegant in the mouth this is refreshing but quite herbal and almost vegetal on the palate with a decided green streak and some granitic minerality but not much fruit. 84pts
User Reviews for Lapierre Morgon
Add your reviewFresh nose of strawberry and raspberry. Toasted pecan, blood orange and strawberry. Some subtle forest floor. Nice blend of fruit, flower and minerality. Well balanced. 89 pts. 1/19/13
Color: transparent, light ruby red Smell: cherries, something floral, earthy (maybe even medicinal?) Taste: very light tannins, medium-dry, medium acidity, tarty My first purchase from Marcel Lapierre. The bottle was confusing to open, but the red wax covering the rim is a nice touch as it prevents dripping down the side of the bottle.
Dry, dusty nose with tannins seeping through. Tight and mineral, almost vegetal (bay leaf, maybe asparagus). Earthy finish is pleasant, and that saves the wine. Decant and give it a year or so.
Gorgeous nose, very pretty! Flavors of raspberry, cherry, licorice and violets. Very nice layers and complexity. Good balance! - Tasted at Marché Bacchus 10/2/10
Light candy cherry nose over slight toast. In the mouth, flat & thin at first leading to herbaceous and vegetal notes, finishing with soft tannins, grows on me.
Marcel Lapierre is perhaps the 'big' star of the Morgon region, certainly the maker of some of the appellations most interesting wines. He has a great reverence for the terroir, that he faithfully expreseses with natural, traditional winemaking. Minimal sulphur, fining and filtration is the norm here - the wines are complex, but express the signature solid red fruits of an authentic Morgon. The wines can age superbly. 2007 4/5
This wine was featured on SLATE's Culture Gabfest, the Show titled The In Bruno Veritas Edition u Revoir to All That: Food, Wine, and the End of France (2009 Hardcover) by Michael Steinberger...(Fine interview, worth hearing @ http://www.slate.com/id/2221848#090715 They drank it on the podcast, and Steinberger dubbed it an excellent example of an inexpensive French (family estate) vintage, in the-less-expensive-than- Burgundy Morgon. Steinberger highly recommended it as a good occasional wine for the price-is-object crowd, of which I am one of many. I don't think I've got it distributed here in North Carolina, yet, but I'm looking.

Marcel produces a small quantity of this special cuvee, but so far only in certain vintages. It is from his oldest vines mostly from the Cote du Py, aged longer, & released later than the domaine's flagship Morgon bottling. This is a more serious, more structured, more intense expression of the Morgon terroir. It needs a few years in the bottle or an hour in a decanter to show it's complexity.
