Langmeil Valley Floor Shiraz Baroba 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

90 points Josh Raynolds (IWC): Bright ruby. Spicy cherry and black raspberry on the nose, with complicating notes of incense and dried rose. Sappy and expansive, offering lively red and dark berry flavors and a late note of white pepper. Packs a lot of flavor into a lithe package and finishes with impressive clarity and spicy persistence. Aromatically this is quite tight at first, really restrained with soft herbal tones accented by bright cracked pepper notes. On entry this shows a touch of sweetness that is quickly swept away by the layered, rich, yet elegant mid-palate with its deep, dark fruits. Superbly polished and rather agile for a wine of this mass. The flavors show a touch of dried fruit, dates and figs, along with fresher plum fruit and some lightly stewy cherry tones. The black spice tones are really held in check by the fruit but emerge slowly with time. This really shows remarkable finesse on the palate and ends with a bright, red plum and cherry fruit finish, layered with very well integrated wood spice and vanilla tones. 92pts

Really heavy vanilla and oak aroma, with a little bit of chocolate. Smooth flavor, with sharp raspberry acidity.

Crimson in colour the nose displays dark cherry, pepper and spice with a hint of vanilla. The palate shows juicy cherry and confectionary characteristics with pepper, and briary spice and an influence of toasted oak. Overall the sweetness on the front palate is balanced with some savoury elements from the oak with an almost bitter chocolate lingering aftertaste that's not at all unpleasant. Fine tannin and good length make ensure a satisfying experince. Enjoy with a juicy BBQ grilled steak.

Dunkles Granatrubin.

A terrific value in Barossa Shiraz, Langmeil's 2008 Valley Floor bottling features bold oak-fruit styling without ever seeming jammy. It's full bodied but not unstructured, with mulberries and toasted coconut upfront yet a fresh, savory finish framed... Wine Enthusiast. Tasting Notes:

Colour: Very deep crimson with purple hues. Aroma: Rich dark cherries, Satsuma plum and mulberry fruits jump out of the glass, mingling with fine milk chocolate, white pepper and cinnamon. Palate: Rich and full-bodied well integrated wine. Mouth filling with lovely plums and cherries carried with chocolate and vanillin American oak. Balancing off the sweet fruit is firm but fine tannin and sweet and briary spices.
