Langmeil Barossa Valley Floor Shiraz 2015

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

herbal, finely focused and quite perfumed on the nose with tarry, dark candied fruit and jammy blackberry notes rising from the glass. This is rich and powerful in the mouth but very well balanced. An initial rush of pomegranate and mulberry fruit is followed by some sweetly toasted oak notes all supported by the rather well balanced acid and tannin structure. This is obviously rather fruit driven and one misses the tannins, which are well integrated but a touch dry, on the first go round. Broad shouldered and a little chunky in the mouth, this has plenty of power and even some attractive plum and violet inner mouth perfumes but lacks some nuance. 89pts

Aromatically this is quite tight at first, really restrained with soft herbal tones accented by bright cracked pepper notes. On entry this shows a touch of sweetness that is quickly swept away by the layered, rich, yet elegant mid-palate with its deep, dark fruits. Superbly polished and rather agile for a wine of this mass. The flavors show a touch of dried fruit, dates and figs, along with fresher plum fruit and some lightly stewy cherry tones. The black spice tones are really held in check by the fruit but emerge slowly with time. This really shows remarkable finesse on the palate and ends with a bright, red plum and cherry fruit finish, layered with very well integrated wood spice and vanilla tones. 92pts

Over sweet nose...astringent aftertaste that sinks the underlying positive aspects which could have made a nice bottle.

Really heavy vanilla and oak aroma, with a little bit of chocolate. Smooth flavor, with sharp raspberry acidity.

Crimson in colour the nose displays dark cherry, pepper and spice with a hint of vanilla. The palate shows juicy cherry and confectionary characteristics with pepper, and briary spice and an influence of toasted oak. Overall the sweetness on the front palate is balanced with some savoury elements from the oak with an almost bitter chocolate lingering aftertaste that's not at all unpleasant. Fine tannin and good length make ensure a satisfying experince. Enjoy with a juicy BBQ grilled steak.

Deep flavors, seems like they go on forever, but not tasting too big or wild, as Aussie Shiraz often can. Great fruit flavors of blueberry and plum, with some vanilla in there. Solid integration. Excellent - 88 points.

Rich, sweet and spicy fruit in balance with velvety yetyouthfully austere tannins. A complex, medium to full bodied wine showing hints of mocha and vanilla, which flow through to the lengthy, fruitful, pepper and spice finish.

Opaque ruby. Smoky deeply perfumed aromas of dark fruit preserves pipe tobacco and violet with a peppery overtone. Lush and appealingly sweet on the palate offering intense cassis and blueberry flavors and a hint of mocha. Closes smooth and long with resonating spiciness and sweet slow-mounting tannins. Dunkles Granatrubin.

A terrific value in Barossa Shiraz, Langmeil's 2008 Valley Floor bottling features bold oak-fruit styling without ever seeming jammy. The 2008 Valley Floor Shiraz comes from vines averaging 40-50 years of age and was matured for two years in French oak mainly hogsheads 20% new. Deep garnet-purple in color it s very fruit forward on the nose with intense warm blackberry cassis and warm raspberry aromas plus nuances of licorice Indian spices and vanilla. Full rich and crisp in the mouth it gives firm fine tannins and a long juicy berry finish. Drinking now it should remain fresh to 2015. -Lisa Perrotti-Brown Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

Supple, ripe and polished, playing out its peppery black cherry and licorice flavors over fine-grained tannins that let the finish go on and on. Tempting now, but give it time. Best from 2006 through 2015.
