Langlois-Château Saumur-Champigny la Bretonniere 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Edouard Langlois was a winemaker and cellar-hand in St-Hilaire-St-Florent. In his early twenties, he married Jeanne Chateau and on 1st August 1912, they founded the family company Maison Langlois-Chateau. World War I altered everything as Edouard Langlois was killed in action in 1915, so full responsibility for the business fell to his widow. It was not until the 1970s that the Bollinger family invested in Langlois-Chateau adding to the vineyard holding in Saumur, Saumur-Champigny and Sancerre. Today the estate totals 73 hectares and investments are made every year to uphold their dedication to quality. This is borne out in their delicious wines ranging from their elegant sparkling Crémant to their pure still wines, each of which are true representations of their terroir. Muscadet de Sèvres et Maine, is a refreshingly sharp white, with delicate aromas of citrus fruit on the nose, followed by a forthright taste and lingering finish. It is a remarkably fresh wine, and shows a distinctive yellow. It is top of the range thanks to its exceptional terrior and a dedicated vinification method. It shows more body, more character, and it is more complex: it is, in short, unique compared to other wines of the same name. Furthermore it is a fantastic partner to shellfish, fish from the Loire and of course, oysters.
