User Reviews for Langhe Arneis "San Michele"deltetto Italy

Winemaker's Notes:

Antonio Deltetto has 15 hectares of vineyard in the Roero, the gently hilly region on the northern bank of the Tanaro. The soil is sandier in the Roero, and as a result the wines are more aromatic and less structured than those in the Langhe hills on the south bank. Deltetto’s style has evolved over the last 18 years and it good to see that his reds have more flesh, and his whites better balance and texture than they did in the early 1990s. The grapes come from the 30 year old San Michele vineyard and were picked on the 13th and 14th September. The grapes underwent a short, cold maceration in order to extract more flavour and then 30%of the must was fermented in new Allier oak barriques and 70% in stainless steel. The final blend was put together in spring before bottling. Soft and well-balanced, this 100% Arneis wine has attractive notes of vanilla, apple, exotic fruit on the nose. Fresh, clean and elegant on the palate, it has good length with a zingy, floral finish.
