Lang Vineyards Marechal Foch Okanagan Valley Vqa 2011

Member Review by Brent Johnson:

This Friday we didn’t position two different wineries wines against each other, instead we decided to try a single wine and simply review it. We tried the 2007 Marechal Foch from Lang Vineyards. I believe Lang Vineyards is the oldest vinery in the Naramata area (or so I’m told). They specialize in German style wines with a majority of their wines aged in stainless steel, like this Foch. This is a great sipping wine that could pair with most meats; it didn’t have overwhelming finish which made it, in my opinion, a perfect table wine. I think this is a must have wine to add to your collection. It’s one that you can whip out on any occasion. The Foch is one of their most popular reds and it’s their only mixed variety left. If you’re looking for another good wine from Lang Vineyards I would also recommend their 2006 Gewurztraminer. I would stay away from their Riesling, it was too sweet for me.

Lang Vineyards opened its doors in 1990 and has grown from its humble beginning into one of the Okanagan's foremost boutique wineries. Guenther Lang and his wife, Kristina, purchased the vineyard when they immigrated to Canada in 1980. Guenther selected the property—high up on the bench—for its excellent soil conditions and micro-climate. Additional properties along the bench have added to the overall acreage available to the winery. During the 80's, most of the hybrid varieties were pulled out and replaced with vinifera varieties; whites such as Auxerrois, Gewurztraminer, Riesling and most recently Viognier. Red varieties included Pinot Noir, Merlot and Pinot Meunier. The only hybrid variety remaining is the Marechal Foch, which remains one of Lang's most popular wines. Read less
