What to Expect

Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Reviews

(I'm not sure where the "El Farolito Vineyard' designation came from. I believe ithis wine is from the Kivelstadt Family Vineyard.)
Excellent Syrah, though at this early age it struck me as a little less rich and complete than the wonderful 2006. Earthy dark berry fruit and a blast of ground black pepper highlight the nose and flavors. In the mouth, nicely balanced, medium-bodied, still somewhat tight, somewhat like a good young French Rhone. If it fills out in another year, it will be outstanding.
