User Reviews for Landmark Steel Plow Syrah 375
Add your reviewBig nose of blueberry pie filling. Slight hints of pepper and florals, like violets. The palate meets with very dark fruit notes. Black and blue fruits. Some graphite. It's very inky and lingers long. Very dark. - Tasted at winery Feb 2011
(I'm not sure where the "El Farolito Vineyard' designation came from. I believe ithis wine is from the Kivelstadt Family Vineyard.) Excellent Syrah, though at this early age it struck me as a little less rich and complete than the wonderful 2006. Earthy dark berry fruit and a blast of ground black pepper highlight the nose and flavors. In the mouth, nicely balanced, medium-bodied, still somewhat tight, somewhat like a good young French Rhone. If it fills out in another year, it will be outstanding.

Saturated ruby. Extremely primary nose displays dark berry and cherry skin scents, along with cracked pepper and black olive. Deep and sweet on the palate, with chewy dark fruit compote flavors, youthfully firm tannins and a late note of candied violet. Gains energy with air and finishes with impressive lift and cut. ** Only 10 in Stock **
Kivelstadt Vineyard, Sonoma Valley, CaliforniaLandmark Steel Plow Syrah is a very special red wine gem from Sonoma that brings back fond memories of many pleasurable visits to the winery. Its setting is splendid, its wines seducing and its bocce court relaxing after a long day of wine tasting in Sonoma! Damaris Deere Ford, great-great-granddaughter of John Deere, relocated Landmark Vineyards from Windsor to a spectacular piece of land at the base of Sugarloaf Mountain in the Sonoma Valley. Landmark Steel Plow Syrah was first produced in 2001 and named in honor of John Deere. It is sourced from the Kivelstadt Vineyard, where Phil Coturri practices organic management. This gorgeous Sonoma Syrah received a rating of 91 points from Stephen Tanzers International Wine Cellar. Only 1600 cases were produced.Landmark Steel Plow Syrah is deep ruby-purple in color with a glorious nose of blackberries, cherries, olives, violets and mineral notes. Full-bodied and intense, it offers rich flavors of dark berries, pepper and spice. It was aged for 14 months in 30% new oak for added complexity. The wine is beautifully balanced with a long, lingering finish.Enjoy Landmark Steel Plow Syrah over the next 6-8 years with roast lamb, steak, osso bucco, ratatouille and aged cheeses.
Winemaker's Notes:
Wine Tasting Notes Ripe plum, black fruits and violet aromas mingle with fermentation aromas to yield a Hoisin sauce, white pepper aspect which is also complemented by sweetness from oak. Good tannin structure and ample acidity will enable this Syrah to pair with a wide range of hearty winter fare, such as stewed and braised meats, as well as tomato based sauced and savory herbs.
