What to Expect

Chardonnay is America's most popular grape and with good reason. Made in styles that range from steely, mineral laced wines with crisp green apple fruit to wines that are buttery, rich, and laden with tropical fruits, there is a Chardonnay that will appeal to every palate. Chardonnay is most closely associated with France's Burgundy region and California's Northern valleys though it has proven successful around the globe.

Rating: 88/100 - As reviewed by Wine & Spirits Magazine on 10/09 As fat as a ripe peach dripping with juice, this is ready to chill down for an "I'll have a glass of chardonnay" wine. A hint of bergamot lends interest to its buttery character. For aperitifs.

A winner year after year, the 2007 Overlook Chardonnay is one of the best yet. Rich, round, ripe, long, with loads of tropical fruit, citrus, apple, and nutmeg spice. Seems even richer than the 2006, though it still has a great level of balancing acidity. 81% from Sonoma fruit, the rest from Santa Barbara and Monterey. The wine is fairly widely distributed, so one can almost certainly find it at a lower price than the $28 charged at the winery (and even at that price, it's not a bad deal.)
