Lancaster Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

External Review by Wine Gems @ Perriello's:

Alexander Valley, CaliforniaWine Advocate 91-93 points!Lancaster Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautiful red wine gem from the Alexander Valley of Sonoma. Here in the southernmost tip of Alexander Valley, where Knights Valley and Chalk Hill are nearby companions, growing conditions excel as a result of cooler marine influences slipping through the Valley, extending the growing season and allowing traditional Bordeaux varieties to develop elegant structure, age-worthy tannins and vibrant, rich flavors with both balance and power. The 2013 vintage is a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec, 6% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, aged 22 months in 100% French oak."The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate showcases the brilliant Cabernet Sauvignon that can be achieved in Alexander Valley. With loads of plum, blackberry and cassis fruit, noticeable but sweet tannin, and a multilayered mouthfeel, the wine has attractive suppleness and thrilling levels of extract and richness that make for a big, boisterous, yet promising and potentially long-lived Cabernet Sauvignon. This should drink well for 20+ years."-Robert M. Parker, Jr., Wine Advocate, 91-93 points!Enjoy Lancaster Estate Cabernet Sauvignon with steak, lamb chops, BBQ ribs, grilled vegetables and aged cheeses.

Lancaster Estate remains true to the founding vision of Proprietor Ted Simpkins. We are a family owned winery, dedicated to crafting wines that are Estate grown, bottled, and produced. In 1995, we purchased the former Maacama Creek Winery and its surrounding vineyard and gave the Estate our family name, “Lancaster.” We were attracted to the site’s abundant hillsides, knowing that their diverse elevations, aspects and slopes would provide a wide range of micro-climates from which we could produce wines of intensity and concentrated varietal character. We craft Estate grown, bottled and produced wines that honor and reflect their origins. Our commitment to cultivating our land’s expression through an integrated approach to winegrowing ensures that our wines consistently retain a definitive richness of character. As a result, we produce wines which are singularly identifiable as Lancaster Estate. The Estate is located at the southernmost tip of Alexander Valley, and includes 53 hillside acres of vineyard surrounding the winery. Situated near the confluence of the Knights Valley and Chalk Hill appellations, this location offers a great diversity of soils and micro-climates and the optimum growing conditions for Bordeaux varieties. Our Estate is uniquely blessed with warm days and cool nights, and a longer growing season than other Cabernet-driven appellations. As a result, our wines express their rich, ripe flavors with bright vibrancy and balance. The property consists of 24 vineyard blocks that are sub-divided into 27 distinct sub-blocks. The vineyard is planted exclusively to the classic Bordeaux varieties—Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. Tasting Room Tastings and Private Tour and Tastings are available, Monday - Saturday by appointment, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. *Beginning Sunday, April 18, we will be open every day through November. We recommend advance notice as space is very limited. Please note, we cannot accommodate groups larger than 6 people without prior notice. Read less

Rich and gutsy, with dense, extracted, well-focused dark fruit, blackberry, wild berry, black licorice and loamy earth, ending with savory herb notes and thick tannins. This winery continues to make gains. Drink now through 2022.

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate bursts from the glass with blackberries, cassis, grilled herbs, smoke and licorice, all of which are beautifully woven together. This ripe juicy Cabernet presents an exotic, super-ripe profile balanced by a firm sense of structure. Not a bad combination, to say the least. Freshly cut flowers, mint and licorice are layered into the energetic, vibrant finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.

From a 53-acre hillside estate at the southern end of the Alexander Valley, this is made by Jesse Katz (profiled in our 30-under-30 feature in the Fall 2011 issue). This is predominantly cabernet sauvignon (92 percent), with small amounts of malbec, merlot, franc and petit verdot adding depth and complexity. The flavors seem to emerge out of the firm tannins, yielding red berries, plums, dark earth and mint scents. This is firm and tight, built to age.

Bright red-ruby. Aromas of black cherry, licorice and menthol are complemented by spicy oak. Smooth, lush and full, with a spicy sassafras quality adding lift to the currant and chocolate flavors. This round, seamless wine finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and good grip.

A great Cabernet that will proudly stand beside the best of Napa Valley. Made in the modern style, it’s soft and sweet in blackberry, cherry, currant and dark-chocolate flavors, but the finish is thoroughly dry, wrapped in a scour of tannins and acids. So good to drink now, you might forget to age it, but don’t. This will provide plenty of deliciousness over the next six-plus years.
