Lamborn Family Vineyards Zinfandel Howell Mountain 2006
For many Napa Valley grapegrowers, 2006 was a challenging year. Thankfully we love a good challenge as it puts us on top of our game. Cooler than average temperatures in the fall forced many vintners to leave their fruit hanging in an attempt to achieve optimal flavor profiles. Unfortunately for some, that point never came and the fruit was either left hanging or crushed before it was ready. Our ideal location high atop Howell Mountain afforded us a perfect blanket of sunshine and heat where others were lacking (2006 was an extreme fog year in Napa Valley), and we harvested our "optimal ripeness" zinfandel on one of the last few days of September. If you have come to know our style, you won't be disappointed! We are proud to offer this, our 24th vintage of estate grown Howell Mountain zinfandel."Driven by this lavish wine of deep purple hue is a nose heavy with opulent Howell Mountain fruit, accented by a delicate spice and vanilla character. Fruit layers of raspberry, black cherry, and plum fuse with a more pronounced pepper/spice component on the palate, resulting in a complex wine with a wonderful elegance. Exhibiting a finer, more exquisite flavor profile than its predecessor, this wine is well-structured throughout with good length on the finish. A classic Lamborn Family zinfandel!"
The first "Family Vineyard" label in California, Lamborn Family Vineyards was established in the 19'70s producing all estate grown Howell Mountain, Napa Valley zinfandel. 2003 marked their first vintage of estate Howell Mountain cabernet. Now averaging 1,800 cases annually of both wines, Heidi Barrett (of Screaming Eagle fame) has been crafting the wines since 1997.
