Lamborn Family Vineyards Zinfandel Howell Mountain 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

The Lamborn Family is pleased to introduce the twenty-third release of their Howell Mountain zinfandel.Grape farming is always interesting & 2005 was no exception. We had a normal bud break on April 1st, followed by four weeks of very mild temperatures. Mother Nature began her trickery in early May with 3 inches of rain on May 7th, followed by six separate hail storms May 8th while we were mowing the vineyard floor. We had more rain in early June, after which things became more stable. Vine growth was excessive due to high soil moisture content, but the weather was perfect. Except for a one week hot spell in early August, the balance of the season was mild and long, culminating with harvest on October 18th. The ripening period was textbook, and the fruit was beautiful, which will make 2005 memorable. Another reason to remember 2005 is that tonnage production averaged 25% above normal. The following is winemaker Heidi Barretts description of this 100% estate grown, Howell Mountain zinfandel:Deep black raspberry in color with wide open aromas of wonderful Howell Mountain ripe fruit. The nose is loaded with jammy raspberry, spice, black pepper, currants, and hints of toast & vanilla. The flavors are very consistent with the aromas and the impression on the palate is one of richness, ripe fruit and an overall silky mouth feel. The structure is big, but not tannic or aggressive, and the finish has a bit of warmth and good length. This is an easy to drink, easy to love zin! Tasted July 14, 2007.Harvested: October 18th 2005Cases Produced:860Alcohol: 15.9%
