Lake Sonoma Winery Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley Old Vine Saini Farms 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

A bit woody on the nose, though it has attractive cedar and spice notes over licorice-draped black cherry fruit. This is nicely plump on entry with a classic vanilla, black cherry fruit profile that offers up flashes of blueberry and strawberry with the wine’s relatively bright profile. A little creamy in the mouth, this finishes with jammy and lightly spicy black cherry fruit. Simple yes, but it does ring all the right bells. 87pts

Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Restrained and tight with a core of meaty, soy tinged jerky, black pepper and toasty oak aromas with a touch of pine resin embedded in a subtle roast black cherry fruitiness. Rather restrained in the mouth as well with a bit of drying, woody tannin poking out. There is a nice core of cherry fruit here with spice note that lean towards licorice and cedar with a streak of vanilla that runs through the wine and leads to a bit of a pomegranate and wild cherry tone on the brief finish. 86pts

Syrupy, honied nose reminiscent of pound cake with a side of strawberries. Rich and creamy red fruit flavors with bright acidity, a bit of black pepper and a nice meaty finish.

Ripe fruit, perfect amount of heat, spicy and sweet like chinese food. The body is strong and smooth, and the finish is long. Very satisfying.

Vanilla and candied cinnamon on the nose. Gritty but delicate blackberries and spice with a meandering fruity finish that doesn't want to let go. Love it.

Blue/Blackberry aromas, hints of white pepper with a touch of vanilla. Blackberry & dried cherry flavors. Aged nicely.

A great zin, reasonably priced. The wine needs to be decanted or it will be too dry. Great taste, great mouth and very complex. We had this with a very spicy Asian shrimp dish and it paired excellent.

Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 91 EDITORS CHOICEThis wine does better when alcohol levels are elevated, which ripens and fattens the fruit. Here, the alcohol is 15%, and the juicy flavors range from blackberry and mulberry jam through chocolate and sweet briary tobacco to exotic vanilla and Asian spices. Then there's the structure, near-perfect in acids and tannins.Wine Tasting NotesAromatic oak nuances balanced with forward flavors of cherry and plum mingle with mellow tannins for a soft texture and finish.
