Lake Sonoma Winery Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley Old Vine Saini Farms 2005

Member Review by Jon of Sonoma:

A great zin, reasonably priced. The wine needs to be decanted or it will be too dry. Great taste, great mouth and very complex. We had this with a very spicy Asian shrimp dish and it paired excellent.

The owner, Gary Heck, said, “If in one season the climate is such that the grapes are not to our quality standards, we won’t make Lake Sonoma wine from them.” Our mission is to produce premium, Sonoma County sub-appellation and vineyard specific wines: Zinfandels and Fume Blanc from Dry Creek Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley and Chardonnay from Russian River Valley. Our objective is to create the ultimate expression of these sub-appellations: wines possessing excellent structure, desirable fruit flavors, and intriguing complexity. Raise your expectation. Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 91 EDITORS CHOICEThis wine does better when alcohol levels are elevated, which ripens and fattens the fruit. Here, the alcohol is 15%, and the juicy flavors range from blackberry and mulberry jam through chocolate and sweet briary tobacco to exotic vanilla and Asian spices. Then there's the structure, near-perfect in acids and tannins.Wine Tasting NotesAromatic oak nuances balanced with forward flavors of cherry and plum mingle with mellow tannins for a soft texture and finish.
