Lake Sonoma Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2013

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Light on the nose and gently buttery, with a waxy quality to the cherry fruit. This is light and easy to drink, with gentle red fruit flavors but it’s very simple. An easy quaffer that is well made and decent to drink but lacks much interest.  83pts

The owner, Gary Heck, said, “If in one season the climate is such that the grapes are not to our quality standards, we won’t make Lake Sonoma wine from them.” Our mission is to produce premium, Sonoma County sub-appellation and vineyard specific wines: Zinfandels and Fume Blanc from Dry Creek Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley and Chardonnay from Russian River Valley. Our objective is to create the ultimate expression of these sub-appellations: wines possessing excellent structure, desirable fruit flavors, and intriguing complexity. Raise your expectation. Tastes more like a Merlot, not very complex or spicy. Better to try some of the other Lake Sonoma Zins which are excellent.

Tastes more like a merlot, very fruity and not very complex or spicy. Look to the other zins from Lake Sonoma, they are a better choice.

Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 90Lake Sonoma produces varietally pure wines at fair prices. This is a solid Zin, rich and spicy, with cherry-berry and cocoa fruit flavors framed in brisk, fine tannins. Will hold for up to six years.Wine Tasting NotesRipe fruit flavors of plum, blackberry and cherry mingle with an elegant mid palate of creamy vanilla. The lightly toasted oak profile, along with a medley of spices, lengthen the finish and add complexity.
