Classic Cabernet nose full of weedy notes, crisp and focused with red and black currant fruit over an oaky base. On the palate this comes of as rich and soft, front loaded with fruit then a bit chunky and simple with nice red currant fruit supported by soft tannins and bright acids but little complexity and considering how open this is little chance to develop much. 86pts

Already well-known in the middle Ages under the name of Maison Noble de Lagrange Monteil, Chateau Lagrange is located in the Saint-Julien appellation. The estate currently covers 157 hectares of land, of which 115 are under vine, in a single block. The vineyard is planted on two Gunzian gravel rises. Production methods combine the best of traditional and modern methods. Vine density per hectare is high and the soil is cultivated in the classic Medoc manner. The grapes are handpicked and sorted prior to crushing. Traditional Bordeaux winemaking procedures are used and fermentation lakes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine is aged in oak barrels (of which 60% are new every year) in an air conditioned cellar.

The rather overt oak often found in this cuvee seems to have been considerably tamed in the 2008. It is more charming, displaying a plush texture along with sweet cassis and black cherry fruit intertwined with intriguing notes of Christmas fruitcake,... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
