2005 Lagier Meredith Mount Veeder Napa Valley Syrah (Was $55) SKU #1036209 95 points Robert Parker: "I have always enjoyed the elegant, French-styled Syrahs from this winery, and this 2005 appears to be the finest they have yet produced. A beautiful deep ruby/purple hue is accompanied by aromas of blueberries, black raspberries, spice, and ground pepper. Displaying a seamless integration of acidity, alcohol, tannin, and wood, winemaker/proprietor Carol Meredith has fashioned a brilliant Syrah offering substance and style. With full body, superb balance, a silky texture, and a fascinating mouthfeel, it can be drunk now as well as over the next 7-8 years." (12/07) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Enticing floral, jasmine, wild berry and blueberry scents fold over on the palate, giving this sleek, focused youngster a tight beam of fruit and a touch of sage and game meat. The tannins are ripe and integrated. Drink now through 2013. 940 cases made." (Web 07) 92 points from Wine & Spirits Magazine: "This vintage from Steven Lagier and Carole Meredith's vineyard on Mount Veeder is fuller and deeper in tone than the previous two. It needs several hours in a decanter to spread beyond the confines of new oak and ripe fruit, yielding brighter crushed peppercorn scents. Cellar and then serve it with roast boar." (02/08)

Consistently one of the great Syrahs made in California is Carol Meredith s offering from Mt. Veeder. Lagier Meredith s stunning 2009 Syrah reveals an opaque ruby/purple hue along with a gloriously intense perfume of roasted meats, herbs, barbecue smoke.
Our vineyard produces a distinctive wine with a consistently recognizable flavor from vintage to vintage. The wine is shaped by the physical characteristics of our mountain site -- the shallow soil, the high elevation, the eastern exposure, and the cool sea breeze on summer afternoons. The shallow, well-drained soil restricts the growth of the vines and produces very small berries with intense color and flavor.

WA 94pts. - WS 91 Pts. - According to Robert Parker: This gorgeous 2007 Syrah Mt. Veeder displays a dense purple color in addition to a beautiful perfume of spring flowers, blueberries, raspberries, and cool black currants as well as power and richness allied to elegance and burgeoning complexity. Its texture, purity, full-bodied mouthfeel, ethereal style, impeccable precision, and overall high quality suggest it will provide plenty of pleasure for a decade or more. Winemaker Notes - This is our 10th release. Dark berry flavors and a little spice. The same floral aroma we enjoyed in our 2005, but this wine is more lush. Intense, balanced and already complex and it will be even better 10 or 15 years from now.... Rated 90+

Winemaker's Notes:
"The Lagier Meredith label is dedicated to wines made from estate-grown grapes. Most of our effort is in the vineyard, where we devote considerable time to fine tuning the balance between the leaf canopy and the fruit. Not too much crop, not too little, just the right amount for the best flavors that our site can produce. Our winemaking practices are minimal. No extended maceration. We use only neutral French oak barrels in order to minimize oak flavor. We started out growing only Syrah, but we now also grow Mondeuse, Malbec and Zinfandel. The 2010 Syrah is our 13th vintage of this wine. An exquisite wine, compelling and complex. Floral perfume, a touch of pepper, elegant and balanced. No sharp edges. And it will get even better for many years to come. Aged for 22 months in neutral French oak barrels. 400 cases." -Winery
